About me

I see stories everywhere and believe in the power of the pen, whether it’s speaking truth to power and creating change or profiling personalities and entertaining audiences.

What keeps me charged: Rethinking the craft of journalism in the AI-age and sharing my personal passions for storytelling, digital strategy, the outdoors and beer.

My story: I knew I wanted to be a journalist since high school, when my parents had to drive me to the newsroom of two community papers where I worked. Now more than three decades later, with experience at newspapers, magazines and online publications across the nation, I’m still doing what I love.

What you need to know to know me: I am an avid Tar Heel with undergraduate and master’s degrees in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I wore a bow tie for my wedding and now wear one every day to work (I own more than 30).

The latest: I turned a passion for craft beer into a book, “Beer Lover’s Colorado,” and have covered the brewing industry for more than a decade. I am an adventurer who loves to ski, hike, off-road and play outdoors. I currently live in Denver with my wife, Kate, and pup, Lindy.
